Clocks/Boil Them Cabbage Down

Highlights from my first “band practice” with Ashleigh. A very straightforward acoustic cover of “Clocks” by Colplay, in which we are still figuring out how to sing what, when and where (fiddling to be added later), and a folk tune, with Ashleigh on an antique fiddle.

(Now all we need is Jamie on clarinet and her husband on banjo?)

For a very brief period of time (3 days) I carried a cassette recorder on my person to keep track of song ideas. This was in 2006 when I watched a lot of TLC and my fish hadn’t been murdered yet.

Made it most of the way there and then detoured through some scenic places and recreation areas in the country. I sat by a river for a while, absolutely alone. I had this desire to make my surroundings amplify my mood. I was upset and so I wanted to be uncomfortable and deprived of the luxuries of home. But the mountains are actually really soothing, so after an hour or so I drove home listening to Neil Young and Midlake. &#8220;Been thinking &#8216;bout the times we had/some were good and some were bad/the guitar fighting the teevee.&#8221; -NY
